New Bay x Aim To Please
Every once in a while, a horse comes along who reminds you that good things take time—and Rose Cotton is exactly that. A stunning daughter of New Bay, she was purchased by us at Hasmonean Racing for 39,000 guineas from the Tattersalls Horses-In-Training May Sale as an unbroken two-year-old. Sent to the capable hands of Tom Clover, Rose Cotton arrived with potential written all over her, but also the clear need for time, strength, and plenty of conditioning to unlock what lay beneath the surface.
From the outset, it was obvious she would be no early two-year-old, Rose Cotton required a patient approach. She underwent a careful and deliberate programme of conditioning work—filling out physically, learning the ropes, and developing her confidence.
Rose Cotton made her racecourse debut in a fiercely competitive £50,000 Class 2 maiden at Goodwood. Up against race fit fillies, she ran a blinder to finish a fast-finishing sixth, doing her best work late and clearly relishing the experience. It was a run full of promise—raw but exciting—and marked her as a filly to watch as the season progresses.
With her next start scheduled for July 28th at Windsor, anticipation is building. As she continues to grow into her frame and gain race experience, there’s every expectation she’ll build on that promising debut. Rose Cotton is a slow-burn talent—beautiful, well-bred, and now beginning to blossom. One for the tracker, and one we’re genuinely excited about.
